Our love story began in C. V. Bethel Senior High School at a Valentine's Day "Fun day" back in 2005. Keiarj was in grade 11 and I was in grade 10. I had been dropped off late to school coming from a doctor's appointment because of an injury I had. After meeting up with a few of my friends, we got to talk for a bit before it was time to go into the dance. I wasn't interested but decided to go because I would've been alone and getting dropped off would've been in vain. After a while of being nagged by an admirer for a dance, I stopped resisting and decided to dance with him and to my right, there Keiarj was starring me down. I felt so out of place and wondered to myself if I looked bad (because I wasn't dressed for the occassion). So I walked off and went to a close friend of mine and asked her if she knew the guy in the Laker jersey; yes she said, that's Kobe which was Keiarj's nickname. I was puzzled by the name and shocked to the fact that he was actually a student that attended our school. Reason being, everyday I saw a new face and I thought he was an outsider crashing our Fun Day. I could still remember one of our first phone calls when we talked for hours. It was getting late so my mom asked me to come off of the phone and because I didn't hang up right away, she decided to pick up the phone. Keiarj did the unspeakable (for me at that time), he said to me "I love you", why would he do something like that knowing my mom was on the phone lol. All I heard was "Scott, Shantese have man telling her they love her on this phone", I was speechless but I still found that so hilarious for her to believe I was actually talking to an older man. So of course she asked a few questions that I do not remember, but what I do remember is one of Keiarj's responses.... he told her that he was a construction worker over Atlantis. Oh how I wanted to be buried under our house after that. I defused the situation quickly and told her that he was just a friend from school and to verify that my story was true, she told me she wanted to meet him. I told him what she said and he agreed to do it the next day. So after school we met up and with Keiarj by my side (or so I thought), I headed straight to my mom car to introduce them and to my surprise the young man ran back and hid behind a bush and didn't say a word. I was so embarrased and asked what happened when I got to speak with him later that day... His response, he just felt like hiding. Wow right? 12 years worth of memeories later we've became good friends, parents and now high school sweethearts preparing to become husband and wife...We can't wait for this exciting new chapter to begin! |
