We're getting married on Saturday October 16, 2010. The ceremony will be at 4:00pm at Bethlehem Lutheran on 5th Avenue (that's the same as route 25) in St. Charles IL.
The reception will follow at 6:00pm at the Hickory Stick restaurant at the Highlands Country Club, 875 Sports Way, Elgin, IL.
For you 'out of towners' that might be joining us, we'll let you know what hotels are in the area in case you want to get a roo for the night.
The wedding day reception details are provided above, but we wanted to also let you know that we will be having a traditional German polterabend. We're also combining this with our Bridal/wedding shower so please also mark this date on your calendar.
If your German you know this is a fun and informal get together where you get to bring porcelain plates and break them in the driveway and we... get to clean them all up.
The polterabend will be on Saturday October 9th at our house. Polterabend is the term for a German wedding custom in which the guests break porcelain to bring luck to the couple's marriage. The belief in the effectiveness is expressed by the old adage: "Shards bring luck". Forbidden are glasses (glass stands for happiness that should not be broken) and especially mirrors (as a broken mirror will bring seven years of bad luck).
As tradition provides, this is a 'word of mouth' event, even though invitations will be sent, spread the word, the more the better. If you're not sure where we live... let us know or ask around.
